1990 - 2002

In the early 1980s, Mickey and Cam entered the speedway scene in Gympie, Queensland. Cam initially raced a Datsun in the Bomber division before transitioning to Super Streets with a Datsun 1600.

After notable success, Cam acquired a Chevy Monza to compete in Super Sedans, later upgrading to an XE Falcon sponsored by Chris Dott Builders, Lewin Designer Homes, and Australian Garages. Additionally, Cam represented Australia as part of the national team in the USA vs Australia series.

Meanwhile, Mickey was involved in behind-the-scenes work, including manual lap scoring and sponsor coordination. Leveraging her skills as a graphic artist, she ventured into designing and producing race merchandise. Eventually, Mickey founded Aus Style Signs, a screen printing company, and Art By Mickey, a graphic design firm. Despite her predominantly backstage role, Mickey made a memorable debut in a Ladies' Race driving a Valiant Charger, which was also her last race.

Cam and Mickey married in 1995, and Abi came along in 2000. Due to professional obligations, the family relocated to Central Queensland, where they have resided for over two decades.

At thirteen, Abi kicked off her Speedway journey in Junior Sedan racing. Despite a significant accident early on in the Toyota Corolla, the team returned after months of rebuilding.

Transitioning from the rear-wheel-drive Corolla to a front-wheel-drive G100 Daihatsu Charade, Abi continued her Junior Sedan racing along the east coast of Queensland. After being named Marybourgh Junior Club Champion in 2014, Abi continued improving her race craft, resulting in several podium and top-10 finishes.

2017 - 2018

Cam and Abi built a new G100 Charade to contest her final seasons in Junior Sedans. Beyond the racetrack, Abi was an ambassador for multiple STEM institutions and programs throughout her secondary education. 2018 saw Abi accepted into university to study for a Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering Honors and the inception of 'ABI2RACE' as a way to share the team's journey in motorsport.

After graduating from Junior racing at eighteen, Abi raced a Wingless Sprintcar and Dirt-Kart before the team acquired their own Modlite and Dirt-Kart. Competing across the East Coast of Australia, Abi contended for her first Australian title, qualifying 21st and going on to finish second in the Campbell's Truck and Bobcat series in 2022. The following year, Abi was voted Driver's Driver by her fellow Modlite competitors at the end-of-season awards night.

The team still competes in the Modlite division across Australia and aims to continue improving their racing.

2023 - 10 Year Anniversary

A Letter from Abi

November 2023 marked a significant milestone as I celebrated ten years of racing speedway, a journey spanning almost half my life.

It all began when I was thirteen, in a Corolla at Rockhampton Speedway. With no idea what to expect, I was both ambitious and nervous.

That first race may not have gone as planned, with my car resembling a crushed soda can by the end, but it marked the beginning of an incredible journey.

There could not have been a better place to start racing than Junior Sedans. While Junior Sedans ignited my passion for motorsport, it was off the track during road trips in the bus and late-night campfire games, where lasting friendships were forged.

In 2018, my Junior Sedan career ended at Bundaberg Speedway in the G100 Charade built in our backyard. We were at a crossroads; what would happen next? After careful consideration and endorsement of the class from fellow racers, we purchased a Modlite and enclosed trailer to match.

The move to open-wheel racing was a challenge but a decision I would not change. Through the highs and lows, the camaraderie and sportsmanship within the Modlite community have made the experience all the more enjoyable.

Reflecting on the past decade of speedway adventures, I can't help but appreciate the diverse range of cars and karts I've had the privilege to race. The number 2, inspired by Dad's racing number, was my first racing number and still my favourite.

When transitioning to Modlites, the number 2 wasn't available, and I had no idea what new number to choose. The Modlite we purchased had a history with the number 23, winning Australian titles under that number with a family friend. It was the perfect pick.

The speedway landscape has evolved significantly over the past decade, but one constant has been the unwavering support of my parents.

Mum, the unsung hero behind the scenes, has diligently managed logistics and coordinated sponsors, ensuring everything runs smoothly. Her dedication has been the glue that holds it all together; I am in awe of how hard she works, and it inspires me to always try my hardest.

Dad has spent countless hours in the shed and on the road while patiently addressing my endless questions and wild ideas. From imparting his wisdom to teaching me practical skills, I am forever grateful for all Dad does.

I have infinite gratitude for my incredible parents and all they do for me on and off track.

As I look forward to the next decade, I am grateful for the friendships and community built over the last. Whether racing as far north as Mareeba or as far south as Lismore or now at my home track that opened a few months ago, the friends I have gained are some of my closet.

Being involved in a community that always comes together to support one another no matter where in the world they are is rare, but motorsport does this.

To my sponsors- past and present - thank you all for being an integral part of this journey. Many of my sponsors have supported me over numerous years and become close mentors and friends. I understand how lucky I have been and am immensely grateful to work with you all.

Thank you to all the amazing photographs that capture these memories!

While I can not name everyone, thank you to all who have supported me in person or over social media; I am incredibly appreciative of the opportunities motorsport has provided me and its impact on my life.

With complete certainty, speedway has shaped the person I am today, developing my resilience and teaching me the power of a community.

I can't wait to see what the next ten years holds.
